Most villages in Madeira celebrate an annual Festa (Festival)
to mark the day of the patron saint of their church.
In Jardim do Mar this is usually on the first weekend in October.
Services are held in the village church on both Saturday and Sunday
punctuated by bell ringing and music.
On the Saturday the statue of the Madonna of the Rosary is carried from the church to the harbour and back accompanied by a brass band and procession.
On the Sunday a carpet of flowers and foliage is laid along this path and a second procession takes place.
The brass band provides music and dancing on both evenings.
